The following documents form the backbone of many of the European Music Council's aims and objectives, and subsequent advocacy work and concrete activities. They provide an informative and comprehensive introduction to how UNESCO and the EU wish to move forward in the field of culture. - European Agenda for Culture in a Globalising World (EU Commission 2007)
European ministers for culture agreed on this “European Agenda for Culture in a Globalising World”, which was published by the European Commission in May 2007. The EMC took an active role in the consultation process prior to its publication. This process already underlines the important role of the civil society, which the Culture Council demonstrated by inviting different stakeholders to the fore in order to establish a structured dialogue.
Europe 2020 Strategy (EU Commission 2010) The Europe 2020 strategy put forward by the Commission sets out a vision of Europe's social market economy for the 21st century. It shows how the EU can come out stronger from the current economic crisis and how it can be turned into a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy delivering high levels of employment, productivity and social cohesion.
- UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (UNESCO 2005)
This convention addresses the many forms of cultural expression that result from the creativity of individuals, groups and societies. The Convention’s primary objective is to strengthen the five inseparable linksof the same chain; namely, creation, production, distribution/dissemination,access and enjoyment of cultural expressions conveyed by cultural activities, goods and services – particularly in developing countries.
