Musical Diversity – Looking Back, Looking Forward 15 to 18 April 2010, Vienna, Austria
The European Music Council (EMC) together with the Austrian Music Council and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna organise the EMC Annual Meeting 2010 and the first European Forum on Music that focuses on Musical Diversity – Looking Back, Looking Forward. The forum will take place at the University of Music and Performing Arts from 15 to 18 April 2010 in Vienna, Austria.
Standing at the beginning of the second decade of our millennium, we invite you to look at the changes that took place in the past ten years and at our expectations for the coming decade with regards to musical diversity:
• To what extent has musical diversity played a role in national as well as in European culture policies? • How is this reflected in the respective legislation? • How do we as music organisations implement musical diversity in our different work fields? • How can we guarantee musical diversity in the future?
Two prominent panel discussions will investigate the importance of musical diversity: What are the chances and challenges for musical diversity in an urban context and what role do cities play herein? What is the European position with a new EU 2020 strategy that still has to prove its place for culture and music? Interactive sessions will give the participants the opportunity to look into the field of music education and E-Culture and to give recommendations on how to protect and promote musical diversity also in the future.
The European Forum on Music will be framed by excellent concerts. On Friday evening the Austrian Composers Forum will invite the participants to the Composers' Lounge at the jazz club Porgy and Bess and on Saturday evening Jeunesse Austria will provide the opportunity to listen to a concert of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in the beautiful environment of the Musikverein.
