Annual ECMTA meeting in Cremona, April 25-27, 2014

The meeting was organized by the Quartetto di Cremona with the collaboration and patronage of the Museo del Violino, Walter Stauffer Academy, Comune di Cremona, Teatro Ponchielli and Camera di Commercio di Cremona. Students from the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali 'C. Monteverdi' in Cremona were also participating.  Events took place in the Museum, the Theatre, and the Chamber of Commerce, so the weekend was an exceptional opportunity to explore the cultural environment of this beautiful city, and bore witness to the city's unusually productive cooperation between business, government, culture, and educational sectors.

42 teachers from 10 countries attended, joined by 52 students from the superior conservatories in Cremona, Parma, Genova, Salerno, Cologne/Aachen, Tartu and Valencia, as well as students from Master4Strings and the Accademia Walter Stauffer.

Together We Are Stronger

The meeting featured a round-table bringing together representatives of our host institutions to share ideas about how chamber music projects allow them to work together in fruitful and innovative ways.  Alessandro Casarotti, CEO of Empleko and researcher in post-conflict analysis, delivered a lecture about the role of music in cultural reconstruction. The meeting also included, in addition to ECMTA meetings and discussion groups, innumerable masterclasses with 12 teachers and 3 concerts featuring students, the Quartetto di Cremona, and their special guests. Each concert took place in a different location, the finale taking place in the magnificent Teatro Ponchielli.

Guided visits to the brand new Museo del Violino, exquisite cocktail receptions, buffet lunches, and coffee breaks were provided through the generosity of the City of Cremona.
