Cancellation of World Youth Choir Tour 2011!

Dear singers, partners, friends and supporters of the World Youth Choir,

It is our unpleasant duty to inform you that the 2011 Summer Session of the World Youth Choir in Argentina and Uruguay has been cancelled due to unforeseen, last moment financial difficulties.

The International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM), Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI), and the European Choral Association - Europa Cantat (ECA-EC) and their partners in Argentina and Uruguay have, in the meantime, explored all possibilities to support the session. It is truly with a heavy heart that they must adhere to the difficult economic situation in the region, pleading to all that such important international projects should not fall victim to budgetary cuts and savings.

All organisations involved in the preparation of the summer session wish to thank all the applicants and previous singers, all local contacts and audition partners in advance for their efforts and understanding; A great thank you goes also to the teams of the Fundación CIC Argentina and Jeuness es Musicales Uruguay as well as other partners and in particular the local authorities in those two countries who supported the project.

Although the cancellation of the 2011 session has affected the planning of the year, we would like to reinstate the commitment of the Foundation Board and partners in the long-term planning of the project, including its future programs in 2011 and beyond.

In the following weeks, the WYC Foundation will offer continuous update to its partners, the singers and the public about all further steps that will safeguard the recruitment process 2011 and 2012, the 2011 singers' status, new project possibilities and our plans for forthcoming years.

At the same time, we see this challenge as an opportunity to further improve and advocate the importance of this unique and renowned program, its development, professional and human evolution as a legacy for our future cooperation and for upcoming generations of talented young singers from all over the world. Soon, the World Youth Choir will continue its mission of "being a truly educational and social experience in different vocal traditions on the highest artistic level while building bridges between young singers from diverse cultures!" www.WorldYouthChoir.org
