EJN's great news!

European Jazz Conference 2018 "ON THE EDGE"
The theme of the European Jazz Conference 2018 (13-16 Sept in Lisbon) will be "ON THE EDGE", an invitation to discuss the concepts of edges, peripheries and edginess (both figuratively and literally). The European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 will be the perfect occasion to talk about the idea that Europe (generally) is becoming more homogenous as technology links us and casts us, stripping away some cultural identity in the process, but shaping new identities as outputs, juxtaposed with the fact that many peripheral countries and cities are not yet as homogenised as "the middle" and consequently have something interesting to say, in music and in culture. Keynote speakers, working group sessions and the Portuguese showcase programme will be announced in Bremen at jazzahead! 2018 (19-22 April).

Jazz for Young People Handbook presented in Rome
A first version of the Handbook on Jazz for Young People, developed by EJN and Vestnorsk Jazzsenter, was presented during a session at Casa del Jazz in Rome on 12 Dec at the presence of Italian jazz promoters and representatives of I-Jazz and MIDJ (Jazz Festivals and Musicians' federations). The Handbook includes a number of tips and suggestions to organise concerts for young audiences both from the musicians and the promoters perspectives. The Handbook is now available on the EJN website together with the Online Marketplace of interesting music projects for kids available for booking.

1st Artistic Exchange Platform meting in Cologne
EJN and Stadtgarten Jazzhaus are organising the 1st EJN Artistic Exchange platform on 1st and 2nd March 2018 in Köln, Germany. This is a new format that aims to help EJN members to develop joint international projects, new tours and commissions in a structured way and through digital tools. In addition to the commissioning of new projects, the meeting will cover topics such as the "art of curating" and how to research new/emerging talents in the European jazz scene and exchange info between promoteers, and will set the basis for a format that can be replicated with other platforms inside EJN.
