International Choir Festival - It's oh so choir

On Saturday 30 October and Sunday 31 October 2010 Koor&Stem is organising an international choir festival, at the Flagey centre in Brussels, aimed at choir singers, conductors, composers and anyone interested in vocal music. It will be a great opportunity to meet people with similar interests, to participate in various workshops and open rehearsals, to discover new international song repertoire or simply to enjoy beautiful choral concerts.

The two-day event will focus on Scandinavian choral music, but that’s not all. The programme includes lectures, workshops and reading sessions by professional conductors and composers such as Mats Nilsson (SWE), Kurt Bikkembergs (BE), Bo Holten, Michael Bojesen (DEN), Louis Buskens (NL), Sandra Milliken (AU), to name but a few. They are ready to coach and inspire the audience, and will introduce it to numerous musical discoveries in Dutch, Flemish, Swedish and Danish choral music. On both Saturday and Sunday afternoon, there will be a choir get together between Danish, Dutch, Flemish and Walloon choirs: it promises to be a fascinating experience. The Flemish Radio Choir will bring the festival to a close with a wonderful concert.

Young composers, too, will be given the chance to shine at It's oh so choir during the AGEC Young Composers Workshop. Young talents from all over Europe have sent some of their work beforehand. Pernille Louise Sejlund (Denmark), Benjamin Scheur (Germany), Pärt Uusberg (Estonia) and Simon De Poorter (Belgium) are the lucky ones who got selected by an international jury made up of Rainer Held (SWZ), Michaël Scheck (BE), Eva Kollar (HUN) and Vic Nees (BE). Their selected works will be brought during an open rehearsal by an ‘ambassador choir’.
