Letter to the Members and Friends of the EMC.

Creative Europe 2014-2020: new budget.

Dear members and friends of the European Music Council,
today the European Commission published its plans on the new programmes for Culture and MEDIA under the heading of Creative Europe. Creative Europe will come into effect in 2014 and will continue until 2020, which is the time period for the new EU budget that is currently being discussed.
The new proposal seeks an increase in the budgets compared to the former programmes of 37%.
The three main strands of Creative Europe are:

  • MEDIA (support of the cinema and audiovisual sector), it is planned to allocate 900 million Euro
  • Culture, it is planned to allocate 500 million Euro
  • Financial guarantee facility to access bank loans, it is planned to allocate 210 million Euro

60 million Euro is planned for the support of policy cooperation and fostering innovative approaches to audience building and new business models.

The proposal is now under discussion by the Council of EU Ministers and the European Parliament.
At this stage we wanted to share the information first. We will come back with more information including a possible reaction to this proposal and a more thorough reflection of Culture Action Europe in the next weeks.

For more information please go to: http://ec.europa.eu/culture/creative-europe/index_en.htm where you may find all the relevant documents that the EU Commission has released so far.

With kind regards
Simone Dudt
