I- EDITORIAL BY THE PRESIDENT OF AMC

The African music council, gradually,settles in and reaches cruising speed. Soon after the statutory meetings of 2014, the AMC proceeds to the implementation of its annual programs and spreads its action in the world. Besides the internship of the Administrative assistant in Europe, the president of the Council took part in the fifth European Music forum in Riga in Latvia briging the message of fraternity and corporatism of the African continent to the colleagues and to the partners of the others continents. On the spot in Africa, in the exchanges which had begun with the member associations and the candidate music groups, succeeded the exchanges with the governmental authorities, sometimes at the hightest level, as prelude big continental manifestations envisaged for the current year and the next year. Both major events which are going to mark the life of the AMC during these two particular years : the celebration of 20 years of the FESPAM in Brazzaville with the decoration of gratitude which the President of IMC 2 handed to the President of the Republic of Congo and the organisation of the 1st Pan-African Forum of music in Abidjan. The actions current as others introduced in the mean- time all will converge on these focal points offering an opportunity for a demonstration of the power of the music.


II- IMC ACTIVITIES WITH REGIONAL MUSIC COUNCILS

  1. The African Music Development Programme led the Impact Music Conference on 29th & 30th April 2015 in Harare, Zimbabwe in the framework of the HIFA festival.
  2. The fifth edition of the European Music Forum took place from 11 to 14 june 2015 in Riga, in Latvia. The African Music Council was represented by his president, Professor Mbuyamba Lupwishi.
  3. In the framework of the African Music Development programme, the IMC will organize during “Kolatier 2015” two major activities: on the one hand the conference centred on the new economic models in favour of the African music, and a workshop on music marketing for the attention of the African professionals. On the other hand, the AMDP will finance the participation of several African trainees in Kolatier 2015 (one student on four months, two professionals on two months and ten students on ten days). The AMC in cooperation with the CERDOTOLA will organize a preparatory workshop in the 1st pan-African Forum of the music planned in September, 2016 in Abidjan.
  4. The European Forum of the Culture will take place from 26 to 27 November 2015 in Brussels in Belgium.

III- AMC ACTIVITIES
The 8th session of the Executive committee of the African Music Council took place on 17th july, 2015 in the memorial Pierre Savorgnan DE BRAZZA in Brazzaville, in the Republic of Congo. All members of the 3 EXCOM took part in this session. The President of the IMC, Paul Dujardin was the guest of honor. The members of IMC and AMC present in Brazzaville were also invited to this session.


IV- ACTIVITIES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS OF AMC

IV-1: ACTIVITIES OF PRESIDENT

  • The President of the AMC took part in the meeting of international artistic committee of MASA 2016 from 16 to 17 April 2015 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
  • The President of the AMC participated actively in the international conference of the CERDOTOLA on the role and the place of the African traditions in the dynamics of the emergence from 16 to 21 June 2015.
  • The 15th edition of the national Festival of Gungu took place from 8 to 15 july in the province of Bandundu on the theme: « the office and the revival of the traditional cultural values a catalyst for the development and the peace ». This meeting is kept in two phases. The first one held from 8th to 12th July in Gungu was festive and the second part, from 13th to 15th July is kept at the University of Kikwit, within the framework of a scientific colloquium on the traditional culture. This colloquium was organized by the African Music Council. The President and the Executive Vice-President of the AMC, Mr Mbuyamba Lupwishi and Léon Adepo Yapo took part in this activity

  • Session of work in AMC office in Brazzaville on june 29th, 2015 on the preparations of the 8th session of the Executive committee of AMC and the Pan-African Music festival (FESPAM).
  • The AMC President Mbuyamba Lupwishi and Vice-President Hugues Gervais Ondaye were received in audience by Jean Claude Gakosso, Minister of Culture and Arts, on june 30th, 2015 in Brazzaville to the Ministry of Culture and Arts. The conversation concerned the preparations for the 10th edition of the Pan-African festival of the Music (FESPAM).
  • The President of the AMC received Father Jean Marie BUKASA MALU on june 30th 2015 in the AMC office.
  • The President of the AMC received the delegation of the congolese musicians union and the association « 3k » on june 29th 2015 in the AMC office.

IV.2: ACTIVITIES OF THE VICE-PRESIDENTS

  • The International Biennal of Bujumbura took place from 10 to 18 April 2015 in Bujumbura (Burundi). The African Music Council was represented by its Executive Vice-President, Mr Leon Adepo Yapo.
  • The International Music Festival of Benin took place from 29th April to 3rd May 2015 in Cotonou in Benin. The African Music Council was represented by the Vice-President for Central Africa, Mr Hugues Gervais Ondaye

V- ACTIVITIES OF AMC MEMBERS

  • The African Music Council (AMC) pays tribute to Dolorosa Mubvumbi, president of the Zimbabwean Music Council passed away on 13 of March 2015.
  • The Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) took place in Harare Zimbabwe from 28th April to 3rd May 2015. The African Music Council was represented by the Zimbabwean Music Council.
  • A binational workshop on the capacity building of the Union of the Musicians of Kenya and Uganda took place from 20 to 23 July 2015 in Kampala, in Uganda.
  • Under the sponsoring of the international Centre for Research and Documentation on African Traditions and languages (CERDOTOLA) and with the support of the African Music Council (AMC), the ALCOPA association (Action of Struggle against poverty), organized from 23th to 25th july 2015 in Yaoundé in Cameroon, the 1st edition of the International Festival of exhibition of dance and traditional popular music (FESTRAD 2015).



 

The perturbed Cameroonian musical sector

The sector of the music in Cameroon knows jerks owed essentially to the problems bound to copyright. It is about the mismanagement of funds generated by copyright and similar rights, as well as the embezzlement were operated on both sides. So, was born a big confusion between the sector of the music which is of the culture and that of the copyright which of the intellectual property.

After the successive closure of three management companies of musical rights, a new company was created and obtained the approval of the Ministry of the arts and culture. But this approval must be cancelled by Prime Minister after the setting up of an ad hoc committee to propose solutions of exit of crisis.

In view of this situation, the Music Council of Cameroon made its contribution in the following way:

  • A text to light the opinion and to propose a reflection more widened for a better structuring of the Cameroonian musical sector was published in two important organs of press (the daily “Le Messager” and “Mutations”).
  • A helping hand to the government for the organization of the Cameroonian Music forum.

VI- UPCOMING EVENTS

 

  • The Annual festival of choirs of Abuja in Nigeria planned from 21st to 24th September 2015 is postponed at a later date.
  • The next edition of the Market of Africa Music « Kolatier 2015 » will be held in Yaoundé (Cameroon) from 7th to 10th October 2015 on the theme: the musics of Africa for the benefit of the actors and African States. Kolatier 2015 will be associated with the 5th Conference on the creative economy in Africa, organized by Arterial at the same time. It is thus the double event which Cameroon gets ready to welcome.
  • The international music market « Visa for music » will take place from 11th to 14th November 2015 in Rabat, in Morocco. A delegation of AMC led by his president will take part in this activity.



 

VII- MUSICAL LIFE IN AFRICA

  • The 34th international party of the music was celebrated from 20 to 21 june 2015 in Congo-Brazzaville by the organization of three big concerts. The first concert was organized to the French Institute of Congo (IFC) to Bacongo in the second district. The second concert says « sacred music » organized by the society of telecommunication Azur Congo, in the Town Hall of Moungali in the fourth district of Brazzaville. The third concert organized by the Congolese Musicians Union in the esplanade of the national center of radio-television (CNTV) in the ninth district.
  • The 10th edition of the Pan-African Music Festival took place from 18 to 22 July 2015 in Brazzaville, (Republic of Congo) on the theme: « the dynamics of African music in the diversity of cultural expressions ». This edition coincided with the 20th anniversary of its creation. On this occasion, the Executive Board of the International Music Council (IMC), led to its highest level by his President, Mr Paul Dujardin expressed its public and official gratitude in the host country, the Republic of Congo. The ceremony of graduation and decoration of the golden medal by the IMC in His Excellency Denis SASSOU NGUESSO, President of Republic of Congo took place on july 18th, 2015 to the Palace of people in Brazzaville (Congo), shortly before the opening of the FESPAM. The AMC participated in the event with his Executive committee strengthened for the occasion.
  • International Salon of the African Music (SIMA) The 3rd edition of the SIMA will be held from 15 to 19 September 2015 in Cotonou, the Beninese capital. After Cameroon and Senegal, it’s the turn of Benin to Welcome the SIMA, the big meeting of the African music. In program concerts and shows compartments, meetings and workshops, market and awards ceremony.



 

MASA on 2016

The 9th edition of the Arts of African Music show (MASA), will be held in Abidjan from 5 to 12 March 2016. For this edition, the call to application in the artistic groups is launched by the executive management. The artistic groups of which the productions raise following 5 disciplines can apply for the MASA on 2016: music, Tale, Dance, Humor and Theater. Application files can be sent: by e-mail : administration(at)masa.ci or by post at this address : Head office of MASA Plateau – 17, Boulevard Roume 09 BP 2877 Abidjan 09 – Côte d’Ivoire, in the pleased late, on August 31st, 2015, date as postmark.
The publication of the list of the groups retained for the official selection has place in the end of October, 2015.
