The Austrian Music Council supports basic work to initiate the interaction between different cultural identities.

Vienna, 7th of March, 2016

Harald Huber, president of the Austrian Music Council, has initialized a project with Arab musicians living in Vienna. These instrumentalists are going to host ten workshops in a refugee center organised and financed by the “Evangelische Diakonie”. Refugees can choose to sing with each other or to play an instrument (percussion, guitar, ...) and explore the different cultural identities and languages. Students of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) organize singing and music classes for refugees. An initiative of students host charity concerts to support charity organisations like the Caritas, Diakonie and others. The Austrian Music Council supports basic work to initiate the interaction between different cultural identities. In 2015, about 90.000 people came to Austria and applied for asylum. "The current challenge is to do some basic work to help refugees to find orientation in new cultural environments and to show them some possibilities to go back to normal.” (Harald Huber, president of the Astrian Music Council).
