The EFMET Research Study, which was produced by the European Association of Conservatoires (AEC), consists of information on various topics in relation to music teacher training in Europe and on the interaction between formal and non-formal types of music education. The EFMET Research Study can be downloaded here (divided in chapters due to large file size of the entire report) and consists of the following components: Chapter I of the EFMET Research Study introduces the rationale, the aims and the methodology of the research. Chapter II presents the outcomes of the research taking a closer look at the training institutions, the study programmes, the qualifications, mobility issues and the existing external contacts of music teacher training programmes. Chapter III consists of descriptions of national systems for music teacher training. As Europe consists of independent states with each having its own educational system, the only way to gain insight into how music teachers are being training in Europe is to collect information about educational systems at national level. In total, descriptions of such systems in 26 countries were developed. As it is to be expected that these descriptions will need to be updated in the near future in relation to developments in higher education in Europe, the descriptions can be printed only per country to be found on the AEC website ‘The Effects of the Bologna Declaration on Professional Music Training in Europe’ at www.aecinfo.org/bologna/teacherdescription In Chapter IV information can be found about the recognition of qualifications in the field of music. In addition to general information about EU regulations on the recognition of qualification, a list of regulated music professions in almost 30 is also included. Examples of good practices of collaboration between formal and non-formal music education organisations are collected in the last chapter. The appendices of the research study include information on research methodologies (e.g. questionnaires and research briefs used), as well as some additional tables with information on the project research.
You may also order a printed version (excluding the national descriptions) for 10 Euro at the EMC office.
