Open letter to Members of the European Parliament

Your engagement for culture in the European Parliament

Dear Members of the European Parliament,

We would like to congratulate you on your election to the European Parliament and we would like to wish you all the best for your up-coming mandate and for shaping the future of the European Union.

We are writing to you on behalf of the European Music Council (EMC), a non-profit organisation dedicated to the development and promotion of musical diversity across Europe. It is a membership network that includes organisations active in the fields of music education, creation, performance, participation, production and heritage.

With this letter, we would like to encourage you to engage with music and culture in your up-coming work at the European Parliament. Whether you choose to become an active member in the “Committee for Culture and Education (CULT)” or in any other committee, we would like to ask you to commit to a European Union that shares a common European heritage and a diversity of cultural expressions across Europe.

The newly elected European Parliament has more anti-European forces than ever before challenging the European concept and its democratic processes. It is thus highly important that the right-wing anti-European forces will not be given the opportunity to work against the values of the European Union. Therefore, we would like to invite you to defend a vision of a cultural Europe, one that is free, open, diverse, inclusive and democratic.

We look forward to exchanging further with you and we are happy to be at your disposal for any further questions or assistance.

With kind regards

Simone Dudt & Ruth Jakobi
Secretaries-General of the European Music Council

The EMC implements a dual leadership model with Ruth Jakobi and Simone Dudt equally holding the position of Secretary General

Bien cordialement

ES

Estimados Eurodiputados y estimadas Eurodiputadas,

Atentamente
