Transcending boundaries – The first musical right and the internet: Freedom of musical expression, the potential of digital media for musical expression and its repression

The digital shift provides challenges as well as opportunities for the music sector. It offers almost infinite access to resources that can foster artistic creation, as well as increased dissemination of music and information. At the same time it is perceived to create a dichotomy between authors’ rights and privacy rights. This session will explore how the digital environment can contribute to the freedom of musical expression and what is standing in the way.
