Russian Music Union - RMU

The Russian Music Union (RMU) is the largest public organization of modern Russia joining together composers and performers of different musical directions – from academic to applied genre and mass culture, as well as representatives of musical science and journalism, education and musical management.

The RMU joins together both individual members and organizations — orchestras, choirs, musical theatres, philharmonic societies, high music schools and colleges. It’s an umbrella organization for national music culture.

RMU promotes the development and implementation of cultural, charitable and educational projects, the organization of concerts, festivals, tours, competitions, thematic workshops. The Union pays much attention to popularization of Russian music – both classical and modern, it cooperates with major music publishers. RMU interacts with public authorities, societies for collective management of copyright and related rights, specialized foundations and international organizations working in the field of culture and art and launches initiatives that allow to solve the problems that Russian musicians face.

The main purpose of the RMU is to support the creativity, performance, as well as musical and educational activity in modern Russia. On behalf of the RMU the educational programs are carried out, periodicals are issued (PianoForum Magazine, Direct Speech – the Bulletin of the Russian Music Union). The Union plans to publish scientific collections and almanacs dedicated to various aspects of actual status and problems of development of musical culture in Russia.

Currently six guilds function at the RMU, including Guild Guild of composers, Guild of academic performing, Guild of jazz and pop art, Guild of musicology, Guild of music management, Guild of music education.
