On 8 October 2026, from 10:30-11:45 CEST, the European Music Council invites you to an online info session with Live DMA and Panteia, exploring recent research on market concentration, discoverability and their implications for cultural diversity, access and freedom of artistic expression.
The session is open to everyone interested in the future of Europe’s music sector.
Market concentration in live music
Live DMA will present findings from its mapping of ownership in Europe’s live music sector, developed with developed with the Reset! network, and the SMA, and carried out by researcher Matthieu Barreira. The presentation will explore increasing market concentration and what changing ownership structures may mean for venues, festivals and the wider live music ecosystem.
Who owns which stages in Europe, and how might these developments affect the diversity of the live music landscape?
Discoverability in the digital environment
Panteia will present findings from the European Commission’s Study on the discoverability of diverse European cultural content in the digital environment, with a particular focus on music.
The presentation will explore how digital platforms and recommendation systems influence what audiences encounter online, as well as the challenges involved in making diverse European repertoire visible and accessible.
The presentations will be followed by a Q&A and open discussion, giving participants the opportunity to exchange with the speakers and reflect on what these developments mean for the music sector.
