GreenBeat Nexus is featured in the latest edition of the European Talent Exchange Magazine, highlighting the project’s work to support the green transition of Europe’s music ecosystem.
The article includes contributions from Ruth Jakobi, Secretary General of the European Music Council, who reflects on the role of the music sector in responding to the climate crisis and on the importance of moving sustainability from a peripheral concern to a core principle of how the sector operates. Rather than focusing only on reducing environmental impact, GreenBeat Nexus also looks at the broader role music can play in contributing to social and systemic transformation.
Co-funded by the European Union under the Music Moves Europe initiative, GreenBeat Nexus is a four-year project designed to help accelerate sustainability across the European music sector. Through research, capacity building, financial support mechanisms and knowledge exchange, the project aims to equip music organisations and professionals with the tools and expertise needed to implement more sustainable practices.
A key objective of the project is also the development of a long-term Network of Green Specialists, helping to strengthen expertise and cooperation across the sector and ensure that sustainability knowledge can continue to circulate beyond the project itself.
GreenBeat Nexus is led by a consortium bringing together INOVA+, the European Music Council, The Green Room, On the Move and KEA European Affairs. Together, the partners combine expertise in music, cultural policy, mobility, sustainability, research and support mechanisms for the cultural and creative sectors.
By connecting stakeholders across different parts of the European music ecosystem, GreenBeat Nexus seeks to encourage a more coordinated approach to the green transition, from grassroots initiatives and independent organisations to medium and large-scale music stakeholders. The project also aims to strengthen the role of music as a space for experimentation, cooperation and positive change beyond the sector itself.
The feature in European Talent Exchange Magazine offers an opportunity to learn more about the ambitions behind GreenBeat Nexus and the wider questions the project is addressing around sustainability, responsibility and the future of music in Europe.
