The health and wellbeing of professional musicians and music creators in the EU
Creating and performing music professionally requires physical and psychological resilience. Music professionals, to stay afloat in the modern times, now need a range of other skills (such as digital and business skills), additional to their virtuosity and proficiency. The recent crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, made things worse. As a reaction to this challenge, the European Commission launched this study in the context of its Music Moves Europe initiative (Preparatory Action 2019).

This study is prepared by Emmanuel Legrand of Legrand Network and commissioned by GESAC – European Grouping of Societies of Authors and Composer. The key question this report attempts to answer is: “How do authors and composers connect with the new music streaming economy, and what can be done to improve the relationship between the two parties?”
Towards a more diverse and inclusive independent music sector – Report on IMPALA’s first survey
In May 2021, during European Diversity Month, IMPALA launched the first diversity and inclusion survey for the European independent music sector. IMPALA designed the surveys with its equity, diversity and inclusion task force and input from Keith Harris OBE as adviser, as well as in consultation with national associations.
