Stage One Survey Report
In 2020, the European Folk Network (EFN) conducted a survey aimed at those organisations working in or with folk or traditional arts across the European continent. The survey is continuing but this report covers the 173 initial responses gathered between May and October 2020.
Feasibility study for the establishment of a European Music Observatory
The study investigates the possible development of a data collection organisation, a European Music Observatory, as a resource to drive relevance and value for future policy actions in the music portfolio and across the sector. Gaps in data availability are identified, as well as the possible scope of a future observatory in terms of the types of data to be covered. On this basis, a ‘four-pillar structure’ is presented. The potential costs and possible organisational basis for a credible Observatory function are explored, and an analysis of different possible options for the set-up and operation of an Observatory is provided, taking into account the specific characteristics and requirements of the European music sector.
Survey on the Impact of the Corona Crisis on European Music Schools
In April 2020, the European Music School Union launched a survey among its members as a first assessment of how the corona crisis affects music schools in Europe. The survey was answered by 22 national associations of music schools and one observer member.

Singing Europe: 37 Million Choral Singers in Europe
The final report of the pilot research project “Singing Europe” (2012-2015), based on two years of exploration of data sources, and through innovative surveys, shows that 4,5% of the European population actively participates in collective singing activities. This represents 37 Million collective singers on the European continent, gathered in about 1 million choirs or ensembles.
